I always seem to get ESP_ERR_WIFI_ARG out from it. When are you supposed to use this function? Is it only for when the wifi chip is in promiscuous mode? If so the docs could be made a little less ambiguous about that.

Yes. It is only designed for promiscuous mode. Thank you for your suggestion.
