The original value of default 1 gwei for the maxPriorityFeePerGas was arrived at by accounting only for Uncle rates, but as discussed during the EIP-1559 co-ordination call today, to account for the current rate of heavily-influenced-by-MEV blocks, the cost to miners is closer to between 2 and 3 gwei (accounting for Uncles and for potential conflict over MEV).

For those interested, here is the maths.

So, for now, the default maxPriorityFeePerGas should be placed at between 2 and 3 gwei, until we have more data, and we can readjust it.

@sambacha Thanks! I’ve updated the above link too. Looks like GitHub was stripping something off, because it kept not working with the bare url, but once I used the square-followed-by-round brackets it worked.
