Plans for restructuring our modules in v7

I would like to restructure our modules a bit. This disccussion is a place to different solutions/ways to do this.

1. Remove datatype Petition to undeprecate random primitives #607

• It feels like one of the most used modules, but has bad autocompletion due to database
• The contents are kind of generic/arbitary

I would like to move number/integer/float/bigint to a new module called number.

2. Cleanup random module

I would like to move alpha/alphaNumeric/numeric/string to a new module called string.

Feel free to suggest other changes or renames.

I personally liked the faker.random module. It was very intuitive to ask for faker.random.number or faker.random.word. Although I suppose all faker data is random anyway, so maybe it's superfluous. Would it be possible to support faker.number() to get a random number, then add methods onto the prototype for more specific types like faker.number.bigInt()? You could do the same with faker.string() and faker.string.alpha()

I generally agree with proposed changes - moving stuff into faker.number and faker.string. I also like the idea to be able to call faker.number directly, but I don't think it's easily achievable with our current setup (classes based)?

Should we already start to move code into new modules in v6? Or should we start with that in v7?

I personally would prefer to wait on v7 with that, so we transition a bit more slowly and have more time to think it right.
But I also would like to implement functions like random.numeric (or random.numericString) because it is needed for other PRs that are targeted for v6.x like datatype.bigInt and it mimics the behavior of what users are currently are used to in v5 and v6 like the function random.alpha and random.alphaNumeric.

We can rearrange all the functions later, but at least provide them to be used now.
Or in other words, I wont like to hold on feature implementations just for "function-location-discussions".

I somewhat dislike the idea, to force users from random -> datatype in v6 (actually v5.5.0) and then datatype -> string/number in v7.

I agree this is not fortunate, but we can't take the full responsibility for anything before 6.0. We are working with a good faith and to move forward we need to dump all the garbage. The sooner we do that the better the library will be.

I'm the same opinion as @ST-DDT #805 (reply in thread)
We are removing all the garbage for now but we are free to bring back the datatypes "back" to random module when we entirely remove the datatype module.
As you can see in #916, we have a ton of deprecations and bringing them over several versions will just produce issues like #902.
In addition to that, we need to check all the duplicate sources and this leads to longer test times for every CI...
And all of that is not worth it to just serve the user two functions that do exactly the same but the one is just calling the other 🤷

As part of #801, a percentage generator will be added to the commerce module as it was not available in the datatype module. When the future number module is built, it may be useful to move the percentage generator there and have an alias in commerce.

No, lorem generates giberish texts that are distinctly different from the other words.

faker.strings generates giberish strings, that aren't intended to be readable.
faker.lorem generates dummy texts/placeholers, that aren't supposed to be read.
faker.words generates texts, that could be read, although there is no guarantee that it makes sense (e.g. favorites: -> ride computers)

(thats one of the reasons why there is no sentence, paragraph, ... methods in words.)
