How to run bell character \e after fish_postexec?

❯ function preexec_test --on-event fish_postexec
    echo \e
end

Instead of the bell character ringing, a new line is just added after invoking the command.

Actually the problemight be different. echo \e isn't working for me. It worked fine an hour ago. Gotta debug why?
