Summary

I just created an IRC channel on freenode: #drupal-vm
and bridged it with a Matrix server: https://riot.im/app/#/room/#drupal-vm:matrix.org

On the last link you can go offline without missing messages, all messages are kept on the matrix server and it keeps track of what messages you received. A GNU screen alternative when using IRC. ;)

Looks great to me! We had set up a Gitter.im (https://gitter.im/drupal-vm), but nobody ever went there... plus I hated having another resource-hungry trendy javascriptey chat thing open (I already have HipChat and Slack most of the day...).

So having an IRC room means I can add it to LimeChat and leave it running all day, using like 200 KB of RAM instead of like 150 MB :P

We should probably document this by adding a badge for the IRC room (maybe linked to an online UI?) at the top of the README.
