Not going to do this, sorry, at least not for the time being. We currently never mark icedtea stable and this would probably trip up Portage as it is not very good at working out the path of least resistance in a virtual. We don't promote icedtea over icedtea-bin because it takes hours to build on some hardware and requires either itself (obviously a problem), icedtea-bin (so you'll need that either way) or gcj (even longer build time and Portage gets confused over the ant-core dependency). The icedtea build may run out of RAM depending on your CFLAGS and I've seen it fail for all sorts of other reasons. icedtea-bin is not some untrusted build from upstream but built by myself with Gentoo.

This may change one day for icedtea-3, which may eventually be able to bootstrap itself with the help of JamVM but I wouldn't hold your breath.
