put the patch in the PATCHES variable and then obliterate src_prepare()

No news from the maintainer since my report in bug #581568; so here it is my pull-request for the version bump to latest upstream releases: both stable (1.6.8) and current (2.3.0).
The 2.3.0 release fixes CVE-2016-6171: related to #588654.
