We don't have the option to convert an issue to discussion and convert a label in bulk either. |

I bumped into the same issue and it seems like the feature has been temporarily disabled to fix some bugs, see #2924 (comment). |

I personally liked how it was before - that the URL (and the #XXX number) would remain the same after converting from issue to discussion. If I understand the new proposal correctly, users who use the "old" link will have to click through to the new discussion. That's not too bad, but I think it was a little more user-friendly before. If the previous way of working prevented conversion back from Discussion to Issue, I'd be in favour of supporting the new way though. Being able to convert back and forth would be neat. |

@carlisia The issue is closed either way. The question is whether it's deleted altogether or just locked. Presumably, the latter would keep the issue's history. @svlandeg Technically, the URL for the discussion was different after conversion (i.e. s/issues/discussions) and the old issue URL just redirected to the new discussion URL, but yeah, it seems like the redirect wouldn't be automatic here. It's also unclear if the discussion would still keep the same number as the issue. |

@Harmon758 thanks for explaining that, I get it now. I haven't used this feature yet so was having trouble visualizing the flow. I would be preferable to delete the issue all together IF it is possible to convert the discussion back to issues. In this case, if the issue is not deleted, we'd end up with a duplicate issue. I would also be preferable to delete the issue if any comment in the issue is also moved to the discussion. If it's not going to be possible to convert a discussion back to an issue, OR if it's not possible to move all comments to the discussion, then it's best to have the issue closed and locked. |

Unless the conversion back replaced the previously locked issue. Not for me to say if this would be possible though.
Previously, all comments were moved to the discussion when converted. The destructive parts of the conversion were the assignees, labels, milestones, etc. that discussions don't have (and the deletion of the issue itself). |

Hi all, we've now rolled out conversion capability again to 50% of repositories. We're hoping to enable to 100% of repositories by the end of today, so stay tuned and you should be able to convert again very, very soon. The new workflow makes open source maintainers look really bad because the original issue is automatically closed and locked. This really does not look good from perspective of the person who filed the original issue. Please reconsider this flow, your new design is much more problematic than the one it replaced #3197. |

Would it be possible to allow people with triage permissions to move an issue to a discussion? According to the doc it is supposed to be possible:
We see Discussions as a way to give more people triage permissions and get more people involved. It feels a bit limiting that they can not move an issue to a discussion. I guess we could have a work-around where triagers set a label on the issue (e.g. Question label) and then you move manually (or maybe automatically if possible) the labelled issues to discussions in bulk. Giving directly the right to move an issue to a discussion would be a bit smoother though. If that helps the repo is https://github.com/scikit-learn/scikit-learn, @cmarmo has the triage rights on it and she can not see the "Convert to Discussion" button on the right-hand-side panel. |

@evi-liu hmmm it seems like @cmarmo still does not see the button "Convert to Discussion". She does have the triage rights I have checked and she can mark discussion as answered/unanswered so they do seem to work for interacting with Discussions but she does not see the "Convert to Discussion" button. The repo is https://github.com/scikit-learn/scikit-learn an example issue is scikit-learn/scikit-learn#18573. |

I just converted all my issues with a particular label to discussions and it worked great, however, it only converted open issues. In fact part of the reason I like discussions better than issues is because discussions can't be closed and are easy for others to find that are having the same question, but many people close issues when they are answered because they assume it's polite. Therefore, I would like to convert my closed issues with a particular label to discussions as well. Is there a way to do this? |

Sorry, I'm a bit confused. I still don't see "Convert issue to discussion" for any issues (repository aegean-odyssey/mpmd_marlin_1.1.x). Has the problem been fixed? Is "Convert issue to discussion" available for all again? If not, what's the ETA? |

Update: We've now rolled out Thank you all for your patience with this bug! It's been a gnarly one for our team. We've added more robust logging as well as verification checks to retry the conversion process if it fails. Hopefully, this mitigates any risk with conversions. We're aware that the current locking mechanism for converted issues is sub-optimal, so once we feel more confident that the underlying bug has been fixed, our intention is to revert back to deleting converted issues. |
