There are similarities with the components. Unless I am understanding core-scroll-threshold incorrectly, it will trigger events based on the an offset top or bottom bound against a target. Whereas akyral-waypoint will trigger an event when a waypoint ( the hidden akyral-waypoint element ), crosses a predefined top position.
The main difference is that the waypoint can uses its own layout and geometry for triggering events.
Perhaps the same can be done with core-scroll-threshold, but had issues achieving same results which lead to the creation of akyral-waypoints.
