About the PR
This PR changes the recipe of firefighting foam.
Old recipe:
(1) Chlorine + (1) Sulfur + (1) Carbon -> (3) Carbon Tetrachloride
New recipe:
(1) Chlorine + (1) Nickel + (1) Carbon -> (2) Carbon Tetrachloride + (1) Nickel
Why's this needed?
The current firefoam-recipe blocks the ability to heat the reaction chain from welding fuel into acetone/phenol by utilizing the sulfuric acid reaction. This would be usefull to create chemicals like atropine or neurodepressant, which both need sulfuric acid and products of the welding oil refining stages.
Since carbon tetrachloride is a chemical that was used in firefighting foams (but thank goodness is long phased out), i wanted to preserve it while giving it a different recipe. Since it's common reaction route would be a radical reaction of methane with chlorine, heating would be an idea, but in general too cumbersome for such a mundane chemical.
That's why a reaction utilizing a catalist was chosen for the new reaction. Since Nickel does not have any reactions involving it yet, i selected this one as a catalyst.
