The .phar-file which is created as a 6.1 release in my fork was used to self-update:

$ php cachetool.phar self:update
Downloading gordalina/cachetool (gordalina/cachetool) 6.0.0
Download finished
Successfully updated cachetool.phar


          Use consolidation/self-update instead of padraic/phar-updater
