As seen in http://www.openstreetmap.org/note/191801 but there's probably other cases.

It would be nice to always have an arrow rendered right next to the label (with RTL handling for added challenge :p). Sounds like it could be tricky to implement though, as we already have so many arrow placement nitpicks.

Do you think merging the oneway and name layers would be an option? We could then first try to render both name and arrow, and if that doesn't fit only the arrow.

How do other maps do this?

We don't actually render arrows. We render a combination of dashes which looks like an arrow. This has the advantage that it curves on curvy roads and doesn't require external files, so can be entirely specified in the MSS, but the disadvantage that it isn't a shield symbolizer or similar that can collide.

Without completely redoing how we do arrows, I don't think this is solvable.

I would prefer to leave this open, at least as long as #606 is still under discussion.
