How to Gather Examples: Solo

edwardsarah edited this page Oct 6, 2023 · 4 revisions

Welcome to the Gather Examples phase of creating a guide! This is the first phase in the guide-making process. In this phase, you will follow a series of slide decks to collect examples for your guide and learn more about how Hack for LA uses Github and Slack.

Setup

Confirm Your Self-Assignment

The following instructions assume you have already picked a guide and assigned yourself to the guide issue. If you have not yet done this, follow the instructions in Guides: Understanding and Self-Assigning.

Confirm That Your Issue is Properly Labelled

When you start gathering examples, your issue should have the following labels:

  • Phase 1 - Gather Examples Solo
  • status 1.1 - needs wiki examples
  • status 1.2 - needs issues examples
  • status 1.3 - needs project board examples
  • status 1.4 - needs slack examples

Overview

To see an Overview of the entire guide-making process, see the slide deck How to Make a Guide: Overview.

The steps in Gathering Examples: Solo are listed below:

  1. Gathering Examples with Github (start here - open in a new tab)
  2. Gathering Examples with Github Search
  3. Gathering Examples with Slack

For the purposes of this pilot, after you've finished gathering examples with Slack, you will stop working on your guide and schedule your interview. Do not continue on to Phase 2.

The next phase in making guides is Phase 2 - Gather Examples Collaboratively.
