  • all this is still very experimental
  • as there is no mainline kernel support for those devices the legacy kernels (v3.10 and v3.18) are used
  • the kernels and initramfs images are built using the postmarketos build systems, thus the postmarketos splash screen on boot :)
  • to use those the devices need an unlocked boot loader, so they will not work out of the box on a device
  • supported systems: fire 7 5th generation 2015 (ford), fire 7 7th generation 2017 (austin), fire hd 8 7th generation 2017 (douglas), fire hd 10 7th generation 2017 (suez)
  • just uncompress the files, write the boot.img to boot (boot_x for douglas and suez) via unlocked bootloader, write the device image to an sd card
  • usb keyboard and/or mouse can be connected via usb otg (hub)
  • there is an onscreen keyboard option in the menu of the login screen and available via accessories -> onboard in the xfce session
  • virtual console terminals only work for ford/austin (they are black on black and unuseable for the others)
  • username/password is as usual linux/changeme
  • austin, suez - not yet tested, but they should just work :)
  • erratum: due to an error in a script one command did not run properly on ford and austin and it is recommended to run the following command as root once on the sunning system "sed -i 's/remount-ro 0 2/remount-ro,noauto 0 2/g' /etc/fstab"
