  1. To make the metadata more parseable.
  2. The long term goal is to get rid of Turing-completeness in build recepies and metadata.

Fair enough.

I'm really averse to breaking the build scripts (just takes insane amount of time to fix stuff like manylinux) but I will definitely keep that in mind going forward.
