PR description

Our current Graph!L scalar parsing interacts poorly with the variables support in the library. Revise the parsing so it works correctly.

A lot of the unit tests had the type mappings as an embeded assumption,
so we had to shuffle some types around, and use a primitive float as our
unit test incorrect value.
