iTwin.js part of the change for https://github.com/iTwin/itwinjs-backlog/issues/169.
The idea is that we extract version from
package.jsoninto a separatejsonfile when building the backend. The file is placed into the source directory and is gitignored to avoid source changes during build. This allows backend code to know the package version. ThePresentationRpcImpladds it to the diagnostics part of response if the request asks for backend version.This is an alternative approach to something like this. I think it's a bit more sustainable and allows us to easily find out backend version for other use cases when diagnosing problems.
