FONBEC is a nonprofit based in Argentina which connects students who want to continue their education but lack the resources to do so (grantees) with people who want to help them (benefactors). One of the pillars of the organization is the letter, which encourages the relationship between grantees and benefactors. This way, grantees are not an "anonymous entity." There are predefined dates in the year for grantees to send a letter to their benefactors, and a group of volunteers (which I'm a part of) reads them (so as to try to identify needs or issues that students may have) and sends them to the corresponding benefactor. This has been a manual process. Not only is it time consuming, but it's also error-prone (some letters are never delivered, others end up with the wrong recipient, and so on). The goal of this project is to automate that process so that each person involved can focus on their role.
Since this is in the context of a solution for a nonprofit based in Argentina, specifically in Greater Buenos Aires (though it may extend to others regions of Argentina), the interface is in Rioplatense Spanish. However, the code (comments, Git commit messages, etc.) is written in English. So if you are technically inclined, you can still contribute even if don't speak Spanish! If that's the case, don't hesitate to get in touch.
The architecture of this project and the technologies used are based on the talk I gave on September 12, 2022, in the context of Programmers' Week 2022, "Blazor in the Enterprise." You can find more information about it in my GitHub repo ignacioerrico/pw-2022-blazor-in-the-enterprise.
