After updating to Openfire 4.8.0 the Non-SASL plugin stopped working with the following error in the log file:

Thanks for reporting this. I do not think that the problem has anything to do with the switch from Apache MINA to Netty. It's a more generic compatibility issue with API changes in the same Openfire version.

This commit addresses changes that are required for the plugin to be compatible with Openfire 4.8.0 and later.
As a result, this version of the plugin now requires Openfire 4.8.0 (or later).
