Glowstone Canyon

Where most of the Nether only has Glowstone grow in small, sporadic blobs, this biome had the prime conditions for Glowstone to grow into massive Stalagmites and cover the walls, floors and ceiling. When creatures that survived off of Glowstone Dust emerged, they started chipping away at so much of the biome, the dust started getting sprayed and spread onto the ground.

Over hundreds of years, it went from particles, to a layer, to a whole surface of Glowstone Dust (now called Glowdust for short), creating a pseudo-desert with its own new forms of flora and cave systems emerging. The Glowstone Canyon was born.

About

The Glowstone Canyon, our first brand new biome, will act as a biome of fragile respite from the dangers of the rest of the Nether... Until you get too comfortable. Walking into the numerous thorns or stepping into the biomes new fire will attract the ravenous inhabitants. Be sure to watch where you step, too... You never know when the bottom of the world is waiting for you.

Still, if you can surpass those problems, the place offers tons of wonderful building blocks and utility items as a reward. Glowlight items repel Magma Cube, so be sure to wipe out as many Glowsquitos as you can when venturing into the Basalt Deltas!

Blocks

  • Glowstone - Luminescent stone that shines brightly via the Glowstone Dust found inside.
  • Dimstone - Glowstone that is partially missing the dust that allows it to glow, thus its name.
  • Dullstone - Glowstone that has become inert and hardened, lacking any dust or luminance.
  • Shimmer Sand - Glowstone Dust that has layered onto the ground of the biome.
  • Shimmer Stone - Shimmer Sand that has hardened due to pressure.
  • Shimmer Gravel - Crumbling Shimmer Sand that will collapse if stepped upon.
  • Blackstone - A brittle stone type that looks wonderful and can be used for furnaces and tools.

All of these blocks (barring Shimmer Gravel) have brick variants, too!

Flora

  • Luminous Fungus - A new Fungus type proliferates the Canyon, and will give you the Luminous effect when brushed against. It also lights up when it senses movement!
  • Dullthorns - A thorny offshoot of Luminous Fungus that grows high and tall in the Canyon, which harms whoever dares touch it. It injects the Luminous effect directly into your veins, so be wary of it!

Mobs

Features

  • Death Pits - Covered in Shimmer Gravel, these pits can catch you off guard if you don't remain vigilant! Your fate will often be decided by if whether lava sits at the bottom of these pits or not.
  • Ravines - Cracks in the ground cover the Canyon. Sometimes, you'll be able to find Blindsights who fell and got caught inside.
  • Glowstone Stalagmites - Perhaps the Canyon's most iconic feature, Stalagmites both titanic and tiny can be found throughout with gradients from Glow to Dullstone where Glowsquitos have partially sucked the life out of them.
  • "Heaven" Portal Frames - Remants from builders long gone sit as failed escape routes from the Nether into somewhere better... Perhaps you could bring them back if water was viable...

Ambience

  • Spindle by LudoCrypt plays as wonderful ambient music in the biome.
  • Lots of ambient drums, plucks, and heavenly synths as ambient sounds.
