Telegraf fails to parse exponential values for anything other than gauges due to the minus sign appearing after the ":" separator

telegraf: 2016/09/08 17:32:59 Error: +- values are only supported for gauges: 
datacenter.server.service.item:4.6968460083008E-5|ms|@0.25
