This happens to me now on Chrome Version 66.0.3359.139. |

I tested it with the same versions (both of Chrome and the extension) and I cannot reproduce the issue. Have you tried reinstalling the extension? See this issue, where the submitter found this resolved his issue. |

I can verify that reinstalling the extension indead fixes the issue. |

For me the Firefox was opening a link twice when using "open in a new tab" shortcut. I wasn't able to find out why it does so. However I have found out a simple workaround implemented in this PR.
