The two pandoc filters I looked into

• https://github.com/tomduck/pandoc-fignos
• https://github.com/lierdakil/pandoc-crossref

both rely on pandoc flavored markdown (specifically support for the {#identifer} tag at the end of images) and because we use github flavored markdown, we can't use them directly.

Future work might involve finding an indirect way to use the filters or to just create a custom numbering solution. There is already a custom numbering plugin but figure numbers don't reset per page (which is what we'd like).

I'm moving on to another issue for now since this looks more involved than anticipated.

FFR: We want the figure numbers to reset for each document, i.e., for each notion page. Not for each page in the final documents.
