Zlib performance comparison for genomic data

I was mentioning that there was some analysis showing other libraries outperforming the gkl on compression of genomics data. Here's the link http://www.htslib.org/benchmarks/zlib.html.

It looks like libdeflate seems to outperform the current intel zlib implementation in most metrics. I don't know if anything can be done to close the gap?
