Thank you @GerHobbelt for the quick reply. It seems to crash (and close) when I try to scroll quickly. Then another time the error window(s) pops up (several times) but qiqqa stays open. Yes, I have annotations (tags, rating, comments) in those articles. I tried installing previous versions but it seems like they also have some kind of crashes happening. Thank you for your work on this. I truly miss the commercial version and I was happy to pay for it even though I am a student :) |

In addition, I noticed that I have no ability with this version to do text highlights. Removing OCR and then forcing it does not help. I tried the old documents and highlights ability is completely gone, nothing happens when i try to color the text. |
These functions work in previous v82 release. Current v83 is not strictly a successor of v82 but an alternative development fork, which is, in fact, in early stage. |

Yeah, I noticed a while ago that I had b0rked the highlights feature in the experimental 😉 v83 release series while I was working on other problems. (see also #299 + #295) For now, the best I can come up with (without causing extra work for myself 😉 ) is to install the latest v82 release, which should hopefully do okay. It's not perfect, but I hope you're not in the subset of folks who run into trouble with that one... 🙏 😅 Skip next blurb if that's too techno-nerdy for you. A lot is happening under the hood and as old (obsolete/discontinued) subsystems are ripped out and replaced, the scaffolding needed to have the new stuff perform at SPEED is waiting for the fundamental integration of these technologies to stabilize: we are still bulk testing this stuff to find and fix deep bugs, before they hit me in "production", i.e. when you folks go and use the new goodies.** I've been on the fence for a while now about releasing another experimental v83 as several folks have troubles that would be / should be at least partly solved by the work done in there, but the new stuff has its own pack of nuisances (PDF viewing performance mostly: as I've finally gone and thrown out the obsoleted SORAX PDF render lib, the new MuPDF-based system is still pretty darn slow -- not the fault of MuPDF but due to me and my design choices, which are aimed at keeping this maintainable and platform-portable (Linux one day!) in the long term, while all sorts of caching and The long & short of that is that bleeding edge Qiqqa needs a new prioritized background task queue + image cache (didn't exist before), next to the remaining ongoing rip-out-and-replace-but-make-it-compatible work for text extraction and OCR. That'll take several weeks more at the current pace, so best not to hold your breath, but backpedal to latest v82 until there's something potentially usable coming out next. |

See also explanation at #312 -- that one is not covering all bases (the dire consequences of timing changes in code flow one has to contend with are only mentioned in passing there) Thank you very much for sending the log files! Reporting would you observe on your own machine like that helps me diagnose all kinds of errors. The problem is not yet fixed entirely, as it is part of a greater work and not yet available as a ready-to-use new version. |

Hey Ger, hope you're well, looks like you're making great progress on a million issues - kudos! I'm trying out the latest version (83.0.7656.6401) and having this issue also, seems to just pop up without me doing much, maybe just when opening a pdf. Logs attached. This version does seem to have fixed the issue where Qiqqa wouldn't remember my networked watch folder between reboots, AND it launches much faster. Cheers! Edit: Confirming v 82.0.7579.33985 brings back highlights and doesn't crash. v83 crashed once reaching the bottom of page2 of an already-open PDF. Page 2 & 3 both has highlights and plots, i.e. I didn't see any obvious reason why the end of P2/start of P3 would trigger an issue. |

Found this issue and posting here instead of making a new issue since it looks almost identical. I did some heavy investigation and left comments in the logs (attached). I'll summarize here TLDR at bottom v83.0.7756.6401 Crash occured multiple times and was replicated (sorta...) when searching inside qiqqa. Crash also occured once when dragging the scroll bar and scrolling to bottom really fast. Trying to replicate searching error: Clean start, only opened document that the error had occured in searched for various things: Specifically kept failing when searching for "Meadows" (a cited author's name in the paper which is within a highlight and thus for sure in document.) Tried to replicate specifically searching "Meadows", did not replicate I'm wondering if the crash is related somehow to the viewer's page position relative to the search term and having to search and loop back? Scrolled to last page of document searched for "effect" crashed, effect does occur on the last page. In a document that I had never opened before (no annotations, or highlights either): Trying to replicate in this document I smashed as many terms as I could repeating a bunch just doing them as quickly as I could as soon as I scrolled down about halfway and searched for "effect" which I had searched for successully before TLDR I tested a bunch a stuff was able to replicate the crash but in various scenarios.
