Foods High in Uric Acid Chart Summary • Has Progress Notes • Has Project Map

Additional context

There is high interest in this topic. Also, in several other topics contained within the page. So this page and all related content needs reorganizing. The description of this page reads, " What are the dangers of foods high in uric acid? Are purines in food bad for your gout? Surprisingly, there are worse foods for gout." But it isn't clear how. So I believe I need to:

  1. Create detail pages for each food. Explaining how it is bad for gout, how it is good, or if it is gout-neutral.
  2. Replace this purine list with an index of foods stating if they are good, bad, or neutral.

But more importantly - what do you think?

Also in several other topics contained within the page.

In fact, the biggest problem with this page is that it gives the purine count of many foods. But has very few links to information about individual foods. Yet, gout sufferers are often obsessed with individual foods (who I refer to as GoutPal Foodies).

Generally, I need to try to convince Foodies to think about total weekly and daily food intake. So the best way for me to do that is to explain how individual foods fit into healthy food group eating patterns. At the same time highlighting any gout-specific qualities of those individual foods.

In the past, I've been guilty of focusing on a top-down approach. Leading to me overlooking the questions about many individual foods that are a big concern to many gout sufferers. So now I will address those concerns as I described above. Then I can reformat "Foods High in Uric Acid Chart" as an index to individual foods. Also, an overview of the principles involved in making food choices for gout-friendly eating patterns.

For GoutPal Foodies who want to consider a top-down approach to food, then I recommend starting with one of the eating patterns associated with better gout management:

  • Mediterranean
  • Vegetarian
  • PRAL Alkaline
  • Dietary Approaches To Stop Hypertension (DASH)
So for individual foods, I will review what part they play in these foundation eating patterns. Also, how they fit into Dietary Guidelines Food Groups

I've added some relevant studies about salami to the Progress Notes. Also, I've linked salami into the gout food project and updated some nodes. Next, I'll prepare a new page for publication. Before moving onto the next food item.

Remember, you can influence my next food topic by adding your comments here. Due to the nature of this issue, I'm not limiting comments to the contents of "Foods High in Uric Acid Chart". So please feel free to share your concerns about any aspect of food and gout.

Having decided on a direction for improving this page, I'm continuing to research each food item beyond its purine value. Then I'm creating or updating detail pages. Generally, my priorities are determined by the level of interest in each food. But my top priorities are driven by your comments here. So please let me know what's missing to help you decide which foods are bad for gout.
