Currently, if users try to use external diff command with arguments
will fail because the entire command won't be available through $PATH.
This patch allow users to use external diff tools with args (or not)
via KUBECTL_EXTERNAL_DIFF env.

Reference: kubernetes/kubectl#937

Signed-off-by: Douglas Schilling Landgraf dougsland@redhat.com

/kind feature

What this PR does / why we need it:
Allow kubectl users provide external diff commands with args.

Which issue(s) this PR fixes:
Fixes # kubernetes/kubectl#937

Hi @dougsland. Thanks for your PR.

I'm waiting for a kubernetes member to verify that this patch is reasonable to test. If it is, they should reply with /ok-to-test on its own line. Until that is done, I will not automatically test new commits in this PR, but the usual testing commands by org members will still work. Regular contributors should join the org to skip this step.

Once the patch is verified, the new status will be reflected by the ok-to-test label.

I understand the commands that are listed here.

Instructions for interacting with me using PR comments are available here. If you have questions or suggestions related to my behavior, please file an issue against the kubernetes/test-infra repository.

This looks good. Thanks for taking the initiative to add this.

Let's add at least a unit test to prove this works. You may have to move this code into its own function.

Two things:

  1. what Sean mentioned - please add test
  2. update the description of the command to mention the fact that through KUBECTL_EXTERNAL_DIFF you can also specify additional arguments passed to diff.

Currently, if users try to use external diff command with arguments
will fail because the entire command won't be available through $PATH.
This patch allow users to use external diff tools with args (or not)
via KUBECTL_EXTERNAL_DIFF env.
