This PR addresses issue #8645 by adding documentation for kubectl field selectors, which are currently mentioned only in passing in the existing documentation.

Field selectors are resource filters. By default, no filters are applied, meaning that all fields are selected for. This makes the following queries are equivalent:

"all fields are selected for" is confusing, sounds like we're filtering a subset of fields -but the function of fieldSelector is to get all fields from a subset of resources, right?
Maybe "all resources are selected" ?

## Non-existent field errors

If you attempt to select for a field that doesn't exist for the specified resource(s), you will see an error like this:

It's not just whether the filed exists, IIUC most fields that exist are not usable in fieldSelector, only a few fields are supported, depending on object type?
E.g. The error message below lists only "metadata.name", "metadata.namespace" which are far from all ingress fields!

This was IMHO the main question in the issue that asked this to be documented.

  • I'd mention that only some fields are supported up front at the start.
  • Rename this section to "Supported fields" or "Non-supported fields" and change example to a field that exists but not supported for selection?

I don't know if maintaining a full list of supported fields in the docs is feasible. If yes, probably not here but mark selectable fields in API docs?

Unfortunately, maintaining a full list would likely be time prohibitive unless there were a way to autogenerate that list out of the Kubernetes codebase (and I doubt that that's currently possible).

_Field selectors_ enable you to [select Kubernetes resources](../kubernetes-objects) on the basis of the value of one or more resource fields. Here are some example field selector queries:

"../kubernetes-objects"

I'm not sue if we should avoid relative paths in docs. The fact is that this is rare. Having relative paths in docs is building implicit links between topics. When one topic is later moved to other places in the directory, these relative references are difficult to find and to fix.

## Chained selectors

As with [label](../labels) and other selectors, field selectors can be chained together as a comma-separated list. This `kubectl` command would select all Pods for which the `status.phase` does not equal `Running` *and* the `spec.restartPolicy` field equals `Always`:

@lucperkins Great start! ✨ Thanks for tackling this topic. Some general feedback:

  • Avoid the passive voice. (It's not always avoidable in reference docs, but if you can, do.)
  • Use simple, clear language. Conditional tense ("this command would") creates ambiguity, not clarity.
  • Avoid unnecessary emphasis. Your writing has a great conversational tone, and markup emphasis isn't necessary to convey it.
  • If you use a warning, explain why. Per the style guide, warnings are for critical/dangerous information. Be sure to explain the consequences.

Which fields can be used with field selectors varies by Kubernetes resource type. *All* resource types do, however, support the `metadata.name` and `metadata.namespace` fields. If you attempt to use field selectors on a field that isn't supported for that resource, you will receive an error. Here's an example:

Please note that *only* the `=` and `!=` operators are supported as field selector operators. [Label selector](/docs/concepts/overview/working-with-objects/labels) syntax should *not* be taken as a general guide to field selector syntax. If you require more complex queries involving selectors like [`in` or `notin`](/docs/concepts/overview/working-with-objects/labels#set-based-requirement), you may be better served by label selectors.

Thanks for adding the docs. The document states that:

Supported field selectors vary by Kubernetes resource type

Is there a way to find out if a specific field is supported in the field selectors without trying to use it first? I ran across a use case where I thought I could use them in my code but it turns out that the field is not supported.

Fix both

* also need to change the tr from tabs to spaces

* Fix the semantically very broken search box (#9408)

This was very annoyingly very broken. *Very* broken.

Two primary issues:

1. Autofocus. Autofocus should only be used on a field when it is the
expected action on the page, because it steals keyboard events such
as the arrow keys and Space for navigation, and causes users of
screen readers confusion as they’re thrown into a strange place.

It’d be just barely OK to use it on search pages, but used on
*every* page in the documentation, it’s just *super* annoying.

2. Not being a form. I have *no* idea why anyone would ever have
written it the way it was—it’s just awful from end to end, a bad
reimplementation of a subset of native browser functionality.
It’s a form, let it *be* a form.

Possibly the most baffling part of it was the use of location.replace
which breaks the back button. I just… why!?

While I was at it, I gave the search box an aria-label for good
measure, but I didn’t change its type to "search" because that has
UI implications on some platforms that I’m too lazy to deal with.

This is still pretty bad, because that magnifying glass is done in CSS
rather than being a fair dinkum submit button, but I just wanted a
quick fix because the autofocus issue is annoying me *so much*.

* apply templates/concept (#9539)

* update service-accounts-admin links (#9461)

* Trivial: Make the authentication doc consistent (#9472)

On the content, user categories are defined as service account and
normal user. However regular user is written at one place instead
of normal user. This replaces the regular user with normal user
for the consistency.

The option --authentication-token-webhook-config-file is for specifying
the configuration file which uses the kubeconfig file format, so this
replaces kubeconfig with configuration for avoiding confusions.

The last change is updating the order of 'clusters' and 'users' for
fitting the following example to read easily.
