Whenever there is an equal number of column numbers in tables, would like columns to align.

Perhaps consider adding classes to each column in all tables (ex: ".col1", ".col2", ".col3", etc.) that has preferred widths assigned to the classes. Then, all tables will attempt to match the width for those columns, but expand when needed.

I do something similar when I am generating narrative - so any column width assignments made by the stylesheet need to work with/not override the column widths that are set in the tables in the xml.
