piDeskboard

The piDeskboard is a project about creation of interactive informations panel for your Raspberry Pi.

Firstly created only a Web interface, new improvement make it better with a new UI in Python with GTK. See the feature list for all possibilities;

• For working with LCD panel with touch (HDMI and/or SPI)
• Wheater informations with OpenWheather API (https://openweathermap.org/)
• Mailbox reads and unreads messages counter (imap based)
• Internet Radio player (now from https://radio.levelkro.net/, can be replaced by any ShoutCast compatible stream))
• Todo list (read doc of the day system)
• Time & Date (And tell the current time using eSpeak)
• piWebCtrl embedded for control your Raspberry Pi quickly
• Sub panel: IP Camera streams (up to 5 MJpeg cameras)
• Sub panel: Weather forecast; next hours and next days (up to 5)
• Multi-lang support, add yours! Now have ENglish and FRench
• Support for local sensor (temperature), use the DS18B20 by default

About this current version

This version not have the WebUI (removed Apache and WebUI), for better performances. Writted completly in Python and work well on Raspberry Pi Zero. Is now in "Beta" state and can be used without major problem. Please feedback about the installation process / script.

Minimum requirements

Please note to use a Fresh new install of the Raspbian OS on your SD card, with SSH enabled, network configured with the hostname, and auto-login to CLI. After installation, you must not use the device for other thing of project for best performances and security reasons.

• Raspbian OS Lite (not the Desktop, only CLI)
• Minimum 4Gb MicroSD card, 8Gb suggested
• Raspberry Pi 0,0 v2,1,2,3
• Audio output for use with eSpeak (optionnal) (BT for RPi0, BT/HDMI or Analog for RPi1,2,3)
• Video output (HDMI or LCD by GPIO)
• Touch input (for use the player and cameras)
• Raspberry Pi 0,1,2,3 headless ready to use, with SSH enabled and available
• Internet connection

Headless startup

In the "__install\boot" folder you can copy the "ssh" to your MicroSD card "/boot" partition for enabling the SSH. You can also copy the "wpa_supplicant.conf.dist" into "wpa_supplicant.conf" inside the "/boot" and edit it for activate the Wifi with Raspberry Pi 0 W/WH and Raspberry Pi 3.

Install

Please refer to this Wiki page; https://levelkro.xyz/wiki/RPi-piDeskboard (French) or run "install.sh" on your terminal over SSH.

LCD and other Raspberry Pi displays

You can use any display (with touchscreen for better result) with piDeskboard. You can consult the section about this in the wiki. Support resolution of 480x320, 800x480 and 1024x600.
