Finding a Wacom serial number and firmware version on Linux

lsusb method

First find your VID:PID:

     $lsusb
     Bus 002 Device 002: ID 8087:0024 Intel Corp. Integrated Rate Matching Hub
     Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub
     Bus 001 Device 006: ID 04ca:3006 Lite-On Technology Corp.
     Bus 001 Device 004: ID 0bda:0129 Realtek Semiconductor Corp. RTS5129 Card Reader Controller
     Bus 001 Device 003: ID 04ca:0050 Lite-On Technology Corp.
     Bus 001 Device 002: ID 8087:0024 Intel Corp. Integrated Rate Matching Hub
     Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub
     Bus 004 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0003 Linux Foundation 3.0 root hub
     Bus 003 Device 009: ID 056a:0357 Wacom Co., Ltd
     Bus 003 Device 002: ID 093a:2510 Pixart Imaging, Inc. Optical Mouse
     Bus 003 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub

Your Wacom VID:PID will start with "056a". You may have two listings for one Wacom device, in that case you want to select the VID:PID of the Pen device for the serial number. For the firmware select the pen or touch device as appropriate.

I will use 056a:357 as my example VID:PID below.

Now use 'lsusb' to get more information about the device.

 $sudo lsusb -vd 056a:0357 | head -n 20
 Bus 003 Device 009: ID 056a:0357 Wacom Co., Ltd
 Device Descriptor:
  bLength                18
  bDescriptorType         1
  bcdUSB               2.00
  bDeviceClass 0 (Defined at Interface level)
  bDeviceSubClass         0
  bDeviceProtocol         0
  bMaxPacketSize0        64
  idVendor           0x056a Wacom Co., Ltd
  idProduct          0x0357
  bcdDevice            1.26
  iManufacturer           1 Wacom Co,.Ltd.
  iProduct 2 Wacom Intuos Pro M
  iSerial                 3 6KQS0A1000014
  bNumConfigurations      1
  Configuration Descriptor:
    bLength                 9
    bDescriptorType         2

In the output above, the firmware version is 1.26 ("bcdDevice") and the serial is 6KQS0A1000014 ("iSerial").

sysfs method

Here are the steps to find your serial number in sysfs:

 $cd /sys/bus/hid/drivers/wacom/
 $ ls
 0003:056A:0357.0011 bind module new_id uevent unbind
 $ cd 0003\:056A\:0357.0011 (you can type 0 and hit tab)
 $ cd input
 $ ls
 input51 (your input number will differ)
 $ cd input51
 $ ls
 capabilities event4 modalias phys properties uevent
 device id name power subsystem uniq
 $ cat uniq
 6KQS0A1000014

libudev method

You can also use libudev to find the serial number programmatically. The output below is from the first example at http://www.signal11.us/oss/udev/

 $ ./udev_example
 Device Node Path: /dev/hidraw0
   VID/PID: 093a 2510
   PixArt
   USB Optical Mouse
   serial: (null)
 Device Node Path: /dev/hidraw1
   VID/PID: 056a 0357
   Wacom Co,.Ltd.
   Wacom Intuos Pro M
   serial: 6KQS0A1000014
 Device Node Path: /dev/hidraw2
   VID/PID: 04ca 0050
   Lite-On Technology Corp.
   USB Multimedia Keyboard
   serial: (null)
 Device Node Path: /dev/hidraw3
   VID/PID: 04ca 0050
   Lite-On Technology Corp.
