While not woody plants, and therefore outside of the scope o OSPREE, we have gathered a significant amount of data (2766 observations) for strawberries (Fragaria).

There are 3 variety classes of cultivated strawberries, June-bearing (cued by short days), everbearing (which fruit twice at both the beginning and end of the season and cued by long days) and day neutral which are said to be insensitive to photoperiod and rather controlled by temperature cues.

We are interested in whether these changes to flowering cues have any influence on the bud burst cues in each variety.

Dear Lizzie,

.... Unfortunately I am not at all an specialist about strawberry models... The only work I did with strawberries was to help some colleagues working in Bordeaux in order to simulate floral induction. Nevertheless I think this is a very good question and I think the best thing is to contact directly my colleague working on this (Beatrice Denoyes - Beatrice.denoyes@inra.fr) You (or Dan) can contact her from me. No problem.

Hi Iñaki!

I am headed to DC with the lab to hang out with Ailene for the week and work on our growth chamber database (wish us luck!). I am writing with a strawberry question for you regarding it.

Dan has found out there are three types of varieties of strawberries: early fruiting, late fruiting and twice-fruiting. He’s interested in looking at how the cues that trigger flowering vary among these varieties. It occurred to me that there are many phenological strawberry models though and perhaps the answer to this question is already known. Do you happen to know what triggers the differences in flowering across early, late and twice fruiting varieties? And/or could you recommend any resources about the current phenological models for strawberries?
