FAQ

  1. Q. How does it work?

    A. Plays.tv is an Electron app, which is nice because it is easily extract-able and easy to make changes. The installer in short, makes the necessary changes that allows the side-loading of ReplaysTV. Learn more about the installer here.

  2. Q. How can I contribute?

    A. The best way is by fixing issues and making improvements to ReplaysTV. You can find out how to set up the dev environment here to get started.

Common Troubleshooting

Most issues where someone is unable to record, or recording becomes interrupted, are PC-specific and not usually a wide-spread issue that affects everyone. However, here are some things to try and look for if Plays is not recording correctly:

  1. Check the Notable issues section in the README if you haven't done it already.
  2. If Plays is not detecting a game at all (Still says 'Waiting for game to start') then enable the "Record elevated games" option under Settings > General.
  3. Try to do a clean installation of latest video driver for your computer
  4. Do you have enough disk space for where you're trying to record videos and where the temporary video folder is located?
  5. Is there a 3rd party program that might be causing a conflict? (Other Recorders, Screen Capturing Tools, In-game Overlays, Antivirus, etc)
    • Certain Antivirus programs are known to remove some dll files needed for Plays to function correctly. Please check if Plays has been whitelisted and marked as safe within your Antivirus software.
  6. Check if Windows Game DVR or Windows Game Mode is enabled and disable both if any of them is enabled, then restart the computer and try to record again.
  7. Is the game heavily modded, and does removing the mod allow it to record?
  8. Ensure you're on the newest version of Windows 7, 8.1, or 10.
  9. Sometimes Plays may not have installed or updated correctly. You can also try uninstalling the app completely, and then reinstall to see if it helps.
  10. Check the Problematic Games List & Problematic Software List.

If the questions above do not help you discover the issue to why you cannot record, you're welcome to submit an issue and provide client logs for further debugging.

Problematic Games List

There are also cases where specific games may not record. While it's very difficult to be up to date on every game that may potentially have an issue, here is a list of known games that may have problems recording:

  • Don't Starve Together - Known Bug
  • Brawlhalla - Known Bug
  • Binding of Isaac - Known Bug
  • Town of Salem - Known Bug
  • Realm of the Mad God - Known Bug
  • Doom 2016 - Problems recording due to OpenGL 4.0
  • Wolfenstein: The New Order - Problems recording due to OpenGL 4.0
  • Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus - Problems recording due to OpenGL 4.0
  • Elite Dangerous (Non-Steam) - Unable to Create Detection
  • Multi-Theft Auto, FiveM, and other GTA multiplayer mods - Unable to Create Detection
  • War Thunder - Needs a change in it's files (Article Here)
  • Street Fighter V - Difficult Detection; May not Work
  • MicroVolts - Crashes Game/Blacklisted
  • iRacing - Difficult Detection; May not Work
  • Bethesda Games (Fallout 4, Skyrim) using SKSE - Unable to Create Detection
  • Blade & Soul (RU & TW versions) - Difficult Detection; May not Work
  • Ghost in the Shell Stand Alone Complex: First Assault Online - Crashes Game/Recording Disabled
  • Runescape NXT - Unable to Create Detection
  • Destiny 2 - Unable to Record due to Security factors from Dev
  • World of Warcraft in DX12 - It may have some issues, but some have reported it working.
  • Ring of Elysium - Requires the Plays app to run elevated as Administrator

There are also cases where specific software may prevent recording. While it's very difficult to be up to date on every software that may potentially have an issue, here is a list of known software that may cause recording problems:
