My name is Michele Sezgin (she/her) and I'm currently a PhD student in the Statistics & Data Science department at Carnegie Mellon University. My interests are in sports analytics (specifically hockey 🏒), machine learning, causal inference, and mixed models.
- comvlong: Commonwealth v. Long R package: Assisting Professors Ben Baumer and Mary Fowler in development of an R package that generalizes the methods implemented in the Commonwealth v. Long case to determine the probability of individual police officer racial bias in citation issuing.
- CMSAC: Does Not Playing Hockey Make You Worse at Hockey?: Research project investigating the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on developing junior hockey players with @jajovanovic. This work started June 2022 as part of the Carnegie Mellon Sports Analytics Camp (CMSAC) summer program, and has culminated in the ongoing writing of an academic paper.
- Teaching Machine Learning: The final project for my computational machine learning class at Smith, which focuses on introducing machine learning concepts to students who have a basic understanding of statistics.
- DSC-WAV Project SPIFFY: A data dashboard that displays health and behavior trends for middle and high school students in Hampshire County, MA. Partnership with the SPIFFY Coalition.
