Should cover #1564 and #1565, I'm not sure the assembly issue is mine only but it possibly can hide itself in some environments (see the issue comment). As for the NPE, I'd also like to know if it happens to anyone else in matches with the sideboarding stage. The suggested changes are pretty minimal and shouldn't hurt anyone.
