The system was launched in '86 despite being developed in '84. This thread gives the most plausible time line for these early releases. Note '86 sales figures are apparently available for the first year games. Separately, Ballblazer is mentioned as coming out in March '88 in a (unfortunately paywalled) newspaper article.

Oh, and I really have no idea about the PAL releases, sorry.

And lemme guess: most of these releases don't even have a copyright on title screen, correct?

I'm still in the court of original creation dates on these initial console release titles as they were indeed made/complete in 1984 by GCC, but Atari was sold and the new owners were more computer focused than console and eventual funding for distribution didn't show up to release these until late 1985/1986 as I recall. I remember buying mine in 1986 and for a long while only those initial dozen or so titles were available.

The ones in this commit are being changed by what is listed on screen as copyright date 1984, (1987 for Ballblazer) which follows/matches up original development dates and not the delayed release dates. I suppose there is argument for both dates.

No, they mostly say '84 since they were probably finished by then as Tafoid said. I hope I didn't inadvertently start a creation vs publication debate. I thought we were using the latter, but I don't really have a strong opinion.

It's probably worth noting that we list the console itself as '86—which feels inconsistent.
