This post on r/MAME asked about it: https://www.reddit.com/r/MAME/comments/o53l6z/does_anyone_knows_how_to_delete_a_save_state_from/

There currently isn’t a way to do it, but this implements it with relatively low impact. You’re prompted to confirm you really want to delete. If you do, it removes the file directly (it doesn’t get get put in the Recycle Bin or similar), so no backsies.

Any objections to this?

I think it's a great idea. This will help get around the inconvenience when a soft reset is applied from the internal UI, MAME automatically loads the save state which prevents the soft reset from working

MAME doesn’t load a save state on soft reset. It saves/restores on hard reset is autosave is on, but this won’t affect that for two reasons: the save/load will happen when you reset, so deleting the old automatic save won’t prevent a new one from being created; and the automatically created save state for autosave isn’t listed in that menu, it’s separate.

My bad, I thought the reset within the internal UI was a soft reset. Thanks for pointing that out!
