Objective: Add missing building footprints in Beverly Hills and nearby area

Adding missing buildings and improving previously added buildings in Beverly Hills based on satellite imagery.

Task Area: 95.68 sq.km
Estimates: 500 per block i.e. total 60,000 buildings (approximately)
1500 buildings per task block (as per http://tasks.openstreetmap.us/project/16#task/3) i. e 180,000 buildings (approximately)
Duration: 3 weeks (10,000 buildings per day)
Progress: 50727 buildings

Task

Adding Missing Buildings in Beverly Hills at http://tasks.openstreetmap.us

Workflow:

1. Pick a task from the Tasking Manager.
2. Load the Bing or Mapbox Satellite imagery to JOSM.
3. Install JOSM Buildings Plugin for easy tracing.
4. Inspect the imagery to find the missing buildings.
5. Add missing building and improve alignment for existing buildings

Shortcuts

• B to start with buildings tool
• X to extrude building shapes as per the imagery.
• Shift+Ctrl to rotate buildings.
• Q to orthogonalize buildings
• Shift+J to merge polygons

Filters

Add a inverse filter building=yes to highlight only buildings in the downloaded area.

I and @abhisheksaikia worked on this task and we added approximately 500 buildings in 2 hours.

Observations

• The tasks are dense, filled with more detailed residential and Industrial buildings and a single block may contain upwards of 500 buildings.
• May need to split single task and make them easier to trace and finish.

@pratikyadav Hey guys, we're working on another import. And this other one aims to bring in the data with the building shapes. Other people from Mapbox involved. Could we turn our focus to it instead? We don't want to overwrite your work. @maning https://github.com/osmlab/labuildings It may be possible for us to export those traces and then do a spatial join with some data sets available. But please don't do any more tracing until we get everyone in agreement/collaborating.
