GvizSerializer ============== GvizSerializer is a Ruby on Rails plugin that provides serialization of ActiveRecord objects into datasource json as specified by the Google Visualization API: http://code.google.com/apis/visualization/documentation/reference.html#Query http://code.google.com/apis/visualization/documentation/reference.html#QueryResponse Example ======= For example, lets say my people table is populated with the following: Person.create(:name => "John Doe", :member_since => 5.years.ago, :active => true) Person.create(:name => "Jane Doe", :member_since => 4.years.ago, :active => false) I can now do the following: class PeopleController def index @people = Person.find(:all) respond_to do |format| format.html format.json { render :json => @people.to_gviz } end end end A json request from a Google Visualization to that action would now receive the following json: google.visualization.Query.setResponse({ version:'0.5', table:{ cols:[ {id:'active',label:'Active',type:'boolean'}, {id:'member_since',label:'Member since',type:'date'}, {id:'name',label:'Name',type:'string'} ], rows:[ {c:[{v:'true},{v:new Date(2003,1,1)},{v:'John Doe'}]}, {c:[{v:'false},{v:new Date(2004,1,1)},{v:'Jane Doe'}]} ] } });" The #to_gviz method also accepts the :only and :except options (just like the Rails methods #to_xml and #to_json) to specify which attributes you wish to be included or excluded. At this time, #to_gviz does not accept the :methods or :include options. That is planned for a future release. Copyright (c) 2008 Marc Love, released under the MIT license
