Two issues with the current (after #28119) placement of the emoji picker.

1.

On low-height viewports (as it’s the case on my laptop with a few toolbars), the picker gets cut off at the bottom without way to scroll through it. The picker maximum height should be any that still fits within the viewport, with scrolling inside.

2.

Visually, I understand it’s meant to be a pop-over, but the trigger button is almost at the centre and it makes the picker slightly off centred and therefore it looks like a mistake.

I think it’s a case where it would look much better to force the picker to actually be centred below the field.

Maybe even more integrated? (very quick draft mockup)

Or alternatively, make it really off centre so that it looks on purpose:

Thanks, those are good suggestions. We have plans to rework the emoji picker entirely (and remove some perf issues it has), and this should probably be done at the same time.

This can quickly become an issue when replying because the text of the parent post takes up a lot of vertical screen space above the input field. My tablet has a resolution that isn't that small (1920x1280) but when replying I can only see half of the emoji picker.

We've also had a few users contact us about running into this.
