Or at least nearest character or grapheme boundary, to avoid invalid UTF-8 or mangled emoji, like in this example:

< lockhead[m]> Wait this isn't element's room 😅
< aaronraimist> <lockhead[m] "Wait this isn't element's room �"> No. Element's room is #element:matrix.org (or 
                #element-ios:matrix.org or #element-android:matrix.org)
