Overview of the interface

Below are screenshots with numbered component(s) of the interface and descriptions of what they are and a quick snippet of what it does. If the result is visual, an image included below the description.

Managed Groups Section

This is the section that will be opened up when first opening the application. Here you can manage your groups: create new ones, add and remove items, and see general stats.

  1. Tabbed sections. You'll use these to get between searching comments, managing groups, and searching YouTube for content to add to groups.
  2. Settings. This opens the settings overlay where you can customize some things, sign into YouTube accounts to use for replying with, and maintenance of the database. To set a custom YouTube API key, follow this guide to get your own API key. Note: this project by default has 1 million quota allotted per day. New projects are only given 10,000 and may not fit your needs if you try creating one.

  1. Select a group to manage or create a new one to manage. Creating a group will open a modal.

  1. Rename the selected group. This enabled editing on the name field, press Enter or the save icon when done to save. Hit the X to cancel.

  1. Refresh the group. This is how you start downloading comments/replies and video meta in the group. The refresh is customizable to download only how much you need. Ignore videos past a certain time, only grab comment threads and replies up to N API-pages of 100 per page, order comments by newest or top. Clicking the refresh button will open a modal where you can continue to start the refresh or cancel.

  1. Reload group information. This reloads the content displayed in 5, 8, and 9. This will automatically be trigger after a refresh.

  2. Delete this group entirely. Clicking this will open a warning modal to confirm that you really want to delete the group.

  1. GroupItems list. This will be a list of channel(s), playlist(s), and/or video(s).

  2. Group stats. This will show you comments by week, videos published by week, and various stats about those comments and videos as shown. About videos will list the top 10 of different categories and the top 25 of commentators in about viewers. Hovering over data points in the graphs will display a popup with the data value and date range.

Search Comments Section

This section allows you to search and list comments from what you've downloaded in the Manage Groups section.

  1. Video context sidebar. When you click on a comment, this context section will load the video thumbnail, views, likes, dislikes, description, and video author. Note: 11 will collapse/expand this section. You can click on the author profile icon or video thumbnail to open them respectively in your browser.

  2. Comments list. This list is determined by your search criteria in 3, 4, 5(, and 9/10).

Context menu Right clicking in the comments list will bring up actions for selected comment(s). They all do as described.

Manage tags Choosing the manage tags context menu option will bring up this modal to add and remove tags on selected comment(s).

  1. Select the group and it's group items.

  2. Select a video. This opens a modal that allows you to search and select a specific video the list comments from.

  2. Comment author. You can click this to open the comment author's profile in your browser.

  3. Show more / Reply. This opens the comment modal. Show more opens the collapsed version, Reply in the expanded form. When signed into an account, the Reply section allows you to select and account and even open your comment in the browser when sent.

  1. View comment thread. This will list the parent comment and all replies under it in the comments list (2). This will also change the bottom to have a 'Back to Results' button to go back where you came from.

  1. Pagination controls. Go to the first page, back a page, forward a page, to the last page.

  2. Custom page. Click in this field and enter a number between 1 and the max page count to the right of it. This is easier to get anywhere in the results list.

  3. Context sidebar toggle. Collapses and expands the video context sidebar.

  4. Query sidebar toggle. Collapses and expands the query sidebar.

  5. Export Results. Allows you to export content to more readily usable formats, CSV or JSON. There is also an option to export comments in a single file (default) or separated by video.

Search YouTube Section

This section lets you search YouTube for content to add to groups. An in-app solution to quickly add content instead of having to search YouTube manually and copying URLs.

  1. Search type. Search YouTube normally or by location. Location gives you coordinate, distance, and a geolocation button in the query section (2).

  1. Query section. Search YouTube like you would normally.

  2. Videos list. Results from your video search. Select as many as you need and click (4) to add your selected videos, playlists, or channels as group items to an existing group or new group.

  3. Add selected to a group. Either add your items as group items to an existing group or create a new one to add them to.

  1. Clear results list. This clears the list of (3).

  2. List the next page of video results. This will infinitely add to the bottom of the list of (3).
