That PR was decided to be slated for 3.1 instead, as it is dependent on another PR (even though it didn't appear so in the code when I merged it yesterday).
@anton-vlasenko To get the changes from 8631 merged again, you'll likely just need to make the code changes a second time, but as part of #7308
