Short description :

Colors the tabs trees when a child tab is opened , I mean that each tree could be colored in a different color : it's very useful to find quickly the different sections of your navigation !

Expected result :

(a click on a link opens a new tab in the same color of the current parent tab, the main parent tab is colored only when a child tab is opened).

Example :

Example
(screenshot based on the behaviour of the old "Tab Kit" extension)

Many thanks for the great addon ! :)

(May be it is possible to make something with the "Styles Editor" ? Not sure of that... )

tabkit had this:

  • new group gets random color
  • context-menu option to (randomly) re-color a group

i found it very useful and kinda rely on it, so would be very pleased if this could be added.

The option of coloring tabs by domain like the TST AddOn Extention would be nice as well.

This is awesome @mbnuqw , thank you !
I don't know if it is my configuration but the colors are a little to much transparent.

The fact to be able to select colorization by "domain" or "container" is fantastic !

Do you think possible to add a third option to colorize by tree of tabs (like on my first screenshot) ?

Because most of the time we open a Google tab and then a lot of different website, so we would like to identify quickly this set of tabs. This kind of colorization is really great to identify the different period of activities you had in your firefox.

Do you think possible to add this option (like on my first screenshot) ? 🙏

It is already possible:

  • Tabs / Colorize tabs / Generate color from: domain;
  • Tabs tree / Colorize branches / Generate color from: URL

About too dimmed colors - yeah... I still experimenting with them, with different themes and color-schemes, so it's subject to change.

Thank you so much ! This is excellent !
So much options I didn't found the setting at the first look 😅 Btw your option menu should be an example for all the software :p

About the colors may be it could be useful to choose the opacity ? Or may be a parameter in the CSS ?

Sure, I can add CSS vars for normal, active and unloaded states of tab.

Looking forward to have more intense colors but already so happy to see this feature available on my favorite extension 😄

Thanks for the last updates :) Do you think possible to make a little build to test it ?
(I've build it but after it require to use another version of firefox which allow to run not "verified" extensions)

This works beautifully. Unfortunately, whenever I close the sidebar and reopen it (or restart Firefox), all the colours have disappeared. This is true regardless of which colour settings have been chosen. Using beta v5.0.0b24 on Firefox 99.0.1 / Windows 10.

@MrQwerky I don't have the same problem, beta v5.0.0b24 on Firefox 102.0.1 (tested with "colorize tabs" -> by domain and "colorize branch" -> by url).

@mbnuqw Thanks for the update, I really love this v5 ! The tabs colors are now more visible but is there a trick to make it even more "flashy" ? (something similar to my screenshot in first post)

@mbnuqw I've just realized that the dark theme creates colors which are more pastel than ligth theme.

Can we set the transparency / intensity / constrast level of these colors ?

By the way I like a lot this "colorize branches" option, it change everything for navigation, thank you.

Closing as implemented. I've also added opacity CSS vars for styles editor, will be available in v5.2.0.
