Welcome to the 41 millennium. A grim, dark future were there is only ever war and the laughter of cruel gods.

Grimdark

This (unofficial!) TTRPG is meant to be played in the Warhammer 40k setting, allowing players to take on the fancy hat and crimson sash of a Commissar, the mantle of a Tech Priest, the nicked blade of a hive ganger or even the power armor of an Adeptus Astartes!

Grimdark is heavily influenced (and partially based on) the 40k TTRPGs by Fantasy Flight Games, in particular Only War and Dark Heresy 2nd Edition. It started as a heavy hack of Only War but has slowly evolved into a completely new, custom system drawing inspiration from several other systems like FATE, The One Ring and others.

Getting started

  • Life Path: fluid character creation by following your characters early life.
  • Core System: the basic system used to resolve actions and influence the world around you.
  • Characters in Grimdark are defined by their Attributes as well as the Profession and Specialty they have selected. Make sure to check out the two (compatible) ways of playing Grimdark: Generalist vs Specialist Playstyle
  • Stress: living in the 41st millennium is stressful by definition but your characters are likely to run into trouble involving firearms, hypersonic blades, psychic assaults or warp shenanigans...
  • Combat: in an universe were there is only war, combat is next to unavoidable. Check this out to see how Grimdark resolves combat.
  • Aptitudes: are used for developing your character after surviving a few instances of insanity filled fubar.
  • Roadmap: check out the roadmap to see what the current status of this write-up is and what future expansions of the core system are planned.
