The ISO House Styles has been revised:

https://www.iso.org/ISO-house-style.html

We need to do a review and publish on a blog regarding what has changed and add issues on what we need to do.

The revision history is provided here (from the website):

Changes from 2022-03 to 2023-03:

Received Type of comment Section Subsection Requester Request Decision Change/comment Status
2022-04-07 Revision Throughout   Nicola Perou Check that all links 'open link in a new tab' - currently some don't. Accepted Correct the identified links Completed
2022-04-08 Revision Plain English   Jos Huxley The fourth bullet is missing the full stop at the end. Accepted Add a full stop: • Use punctuation effectively to clarify meaning. For example, a comma creates a pause in a sentence that helps the user to follow the flow of words. Completed
2022-04-08 Revision Abbreviated terms, abbreviations and contractions e.g, etc. and i.e. Jos Huxley There is no reference to or examples for the use of ‘i.e’. I am interested that the feedback you have received has been that there is not a potential for misapplication; I have had to explain on a number of occasions that i.e. and e.g. are not interchangeable and serve very different functions!Part of the reason for my query was that in every other case in this document there is an usage example for each titled term or expression, however none was present for i.e. in this instance. Accepted Add clarification sentence and examples:e.g. and i.e. are not interchangeable and serve different functions.Use “i.e.” when clarifying a point or explaining something in another way:“Liquefied extinguishants shall be provided as a pure extinguishant, i.e. not pressurized with nitrogen.”“F is the operating force (i.e. the force applied on brake lever or pedal).” Completed
2022-04-26 Revision Symbols Quantities and units Brian Stanton As stated in my mail to Isabel below, in my opinion, in order to better insist upon the use of SI units in all our standards, we should adjust the wording regarding non-SI units as follows:When non-SI units need to be expressed, give the equivalent value in SI units first, followed by the non-SI units in brackets. Accepted Change to: When non-SI units need to be expressed, give the equivalent value in SI units first, followed by the non-SI units in brackets. Completed
2022-08-02 Revision Grammar A or an Paul Jessop “MSS” is very widely recognised as meaning “manuscripts”(*). I am sure though that in some parts of the ISO community, its specialized technical meaning as “management system standard” will be understood. I’d respectfully suggest that an unambiguous example should be chosen, or the intended interpretation of the example should be provided alongside the phonetic spelling. Accepted Changed from "an MSS" to "an NGO, an XML file" Completed
2022-08-18 Revision Throughout   Nicola Perou Lexico.com closed on 26 August and redirects to dictionary.com. The House Style has three links to https://www.lexico.com. Does dictionary.com meet our needs? To update or delete references. Accepted Change in 3 places to: https://www.oxfordlearnersdictionaries.com Completed
2022-11-08 Revision Referencing Cross-references to an unnumbered document David Reid RE: Position of footnotes in relation to punctuation -  there are a few inconsistent examples in the House Style. We need to tidy these up. See email in folder Accepted   Completed

@ronaldtse None of these changes impact anything to do with style, they are just wording clarifications. The one exception, 2022-04-26 non-SI units, brings ISO in line with Metanorma, rather than vice versa (metric units appear before imperial; Metanorma was not looking for imperial units to begin with). Nothing to action for 2022–2023.

Compliance with house style was implemented in Feb 2022 #472, so I'll check the previous year's changes just in case.

Maybe we should publish a blog post that we comply with ISO House Style after the review.

"Adapted from" is to be rendered as "Modified", per rejection of proposal in change log:

The rule is we used 'modified', as shown in DP2. However, if the definition has been taken from text rather than another entry then 'adapted from' can be used in a note to entry. No change to House Style.
