LightGBM contributions

Hello @jameslamb, I reached out to you about guidance to make more continued contributions to LightGBM.

At this moment, to get into the process, I will be involved with issue: #6361 in the LightGBM repository.

I want to contribute more to this repository (eventually by writing some code for a feature, enhancement or patching a bug)

P.S. Happy to share: I am involved in research work at one of the labs at my college, and might use LightGBM for the project as well ( will come to this topic once implementation details are finalised)

By "open a draft pull request", I meant that you should try to make some changes to the project: #6361 (comment)

And then we can answer questions about those changes. If you want to talk in general terms (not specific to a particular change) about contributing to this project, pull requests are not the right place to do that.

You can post specific questions about how to contribute on #6350.

You can email me with more general questions about what to work on next, though I think for now that #6361 is a great place to start.

I'm going to close this, please open a pull request whenever you have some proposed changes to make to the project and we'd be haply to review.
