0.55.1 Setup Failed #16203
Comments
Looks like our installer is too aggressive with requirements, this should have worked. @yuyoyuppe should be an easy fix, no? |
I came to report the issue and I saw this, so I will just add my logs to this issue as they are related. My existing didn't update properly and failed in the middle and so I uninstalled and tried to clean install 0.55.1 but no go. I have the latest .net 5 and .net 6 installed, so this should not be an issue but it refuses to budge. and here is the log in case it helps.

same issue for me on windows 10 version 21H2, after uninstalling 0.51.1 failed to install with same error, 0x80070666 another version of this product is already installed. In case you want the log, it's below. [3CAC:3CB0][2022-02-09T22:17:42]i001: Burn v3.11.2.4516, Windows v10.0 (Build 19044: Service Pack 0), path: C:\Users\admin\AppData\Local\Temp{F13CAB8F-7C41-47E2-9742-C12A70D4D190}.cr\PowerToysSetup-0.55.1-x64.exe |
Workaround:
|
@lainverse Thank you for the workaround! At least I've got PowerToys running again. Except I'll leave MWDR on version 5.0.13 for now, just in case there's another hiccup...🤨 |
Thanks @lainverse - this worked perfectly. For step 6 you can also run Windows Update again and it will download the 5.0.14 runtime. |
We will hotfix the installer. We do not believe at this time it will need it is an update someone needs to take if they have 0.55.1 installed already |
@crutkas Thank you for the update, unfortunately the workaround above is not practical for us, so I was wondering when do you expect the hotfix to be available? Thanks. |
Hope is today! |
Just released 0.55.2 with the fix. Store update is underway as is WinGet |
Personally I would have just switched the v0.55.1 installer to the new one. But it-s too late for that. |
new release means new build number |
I successfully installed the new release. |
@crutkas Apologies for the delay getting back, had to put out some fires at work, but got a chance to install the new one and it worked without a hitch, thank you. |
This actually still happens, could someone give this some attention? |
@tcortega please open a new issue. This issue reported here was fixed |
@sajjad4499 that installer is for the ARM64 processor. Excellent chance you have an x64 processor if you can open a new issue with that log file, that would be helpful |
this is the log files
|

Please create a new issue and provide the log. I don’t have enough info to know what file is actually in use. |

how do I create a new issue? |
new issue button at top. https://github.com/microsoft/PowerToys/issues/new?assignees=&labels=Issue-Bug%2CNeeds-Triage&projects=&template=bug_report.yml honestly, looking at that, i'd suggest restarting your computer / redownloading the installer. This is why i suggest that: I see stuff failing to extract and failing to terminate so the install can continue [1CFC:1FA4][2023-05-12T22:31:59]e000: Error 0x80070570: Failed to extract all files from container, erf: 1:4:0 |
Microsoft PowerToys version
0.55.1
Running as admin
Area(s) with issue?
Installer
Steps to reproduce
Installing this version after uninstalling the current one, 0.51.1, also failed. However, I successfully installed the old version, 0.51.1, back.
✔️ Expected Behavior
A new version of the application is installed successfully.
❌ Actual Behavior
Setup exist with the error, 0x80070666
The installer tries to install DotnetRuntime5, 5.0.13 and fails
Error Log
The possible reason for this error would be that I already have a newer version of DotnetRuntime5, and the installer is not able to detect it and tries to install an older version.
