[PowerRename] Do not close - Keep open #628
Comments
Maybe pressing SHIFT or CTRL when clicking Rename as an option to keep the current dialog open, or something along those lines. Thanks. |
Sounds like you want a shell ext and a stand alone exe to run, right? Both modes of operations |
@crutkas I would actually just be happy with one more checkbox in the current screen where I can enable the option (option should persist after closing the dialog) |
I suggest to add this option to the PowerToys Settings and not to the PowerRename dialog to keep the dialog options only for the actual rename logic. |
@enricogior sounds good! |
@chrdavis |
Changed title to make it easier to find. |
One option: The rename button could change to a dropdown button with "rename" the primary and "rename and keep open" with secondary option. |
I like that approach, as it more closely resembles the usual "Apply" & "Ok" Buttons in Windows UX |
Any update on this? It will be a great feature, as when I need to rename multiple with different names, I need to open it many times. |
I say leave the Rename action with the Rename button. This allows for multiple different rename actions after each other. You can close with [X] in title bar or with Esc or maybe a dedicated Close button. |
I believe this is the best way because it reflects most accurately the non-modal nature of the Power Rename window. Just rename the selection how many times you want, then close the window after you are finished. No need for drop-down buttons. |
Considering the total amount of requests for this: is there a guess if/when this can be done? |
I see this requested quite a bit. I agree this would be a great feature since often these rename operation have multiple steps. |
Will this be included in next version? |
@chrdavis is this up for grabs? I would also like to have this feature implemented. |
@davidegiacometti - all yours :) |
Resolved with v0.49.0. |
Summary of the new feature/enhancement
If I need to perform more than one action, it's very unhandy because i need to restart the tool again.
Proposed technical implementation details (optional)
Leave Power Rename open after performing a change (or make an option for it)
