Hello there well there isn't much to say, my run button just doesn't work I can type run in the terminal but when working on projects this takes a long time and I want to be able to click the run button in the top right to quickly start my code, when I press it I get no response what so ever and not sure what to do

Hello! If you set your log level to trace is there any output? For your logs, can you first set your log level to trace via theDeveloper: set log level command in the command palette then see "python" in the dropdown of the output menu. Also a screen recording could help, Thanks

@Your-Trash-kid Apologies for the delayed response, and thanks for providing the video. It seems to me that none of the contributed buttons on the top right seem to be working for you:

  • Run Code : This is actually contributed from the "Code Runner" extension
  • Debug code, Run Python file etc.

Which seems to suggest to me that it's a bug on VS Code's end, as even buttons not belonging to the Python extension are not working.

I've added more logging in #22851, which should confirm this soon. Meanwhile, can you try running your Python file via the context menu, or by using keyboard shortcuts?

I will try again but I've tried this a lot of times before with no help, one thing that does work is using the virtual environment to run it but it takes way to long for it to be a solution, I will try running it tommow as I don't have access currently

Fixes: microsoft/vscode-python#22691

Making best effort to address issue where very first command sent to
REPL via Terminal gets ignored, or gets pasted both in Terminal and in
REPL.

With the fix, we observe whether Python REPL is launched in Terminal via
VS Code's `onDidWriteTerminalData` and send the command, or wait three
seconds as a fallback mechanism.

These two combined together will significantly reduce or resolve
all-together the chance of very first command being swollen up or gets
pasted twice in Terminal and REPL previously where it did not have
context of whether Python REPL instance have started inside the Terminal
or not.

Prevent first Python command being lost (microsoft/vscode-python#22902)

Fixes: microsoft/vscode-python#22673
Fixes: microsoft/vscode-python#22545
Fixes: microsoft/vscode-python#22691

Making best effort to address issue where very first command sent to
REPL via Terminal gets ignored, or gets pasted both in Terminal and in
REPL.

With the fix, we observe whether Python REPL is launched in Terminal via
VS Code's `onDidWriteTerminalData` and send the command, or wait three
seconds as a fallback mechanism.

These two combined together will significantly reduce or resolve
all-together the chance of very first command being swollen up or gets
pasted twice in Terminal and REPL previously where it did not have
context of whether Python REPL instance have started inside the Terminal
or not.
